Visiting Professors

Who shall we invite next?

Every year, we invite distinguished scholars and leading experts from around the world to join our institution temporarily. These visiting professors enrich our academic environment by bringing fresh perspectives, specialized research, and cutting-edge industry practices directly to our classrooms and labs.

Explore the profiles below to learn more about our current cohort, their areas of expertise, and their upcoming lectures.

Carlo Ratti

In the academic year 2024-2025, Carlo Ratti was the first prominent guest of the programme. Ratti’s work deals with the built environment of cities, from the new road landscape with new mobility systems, to new paradigms of waste collection and energy systems. Using big data and AI techniques, Ratti explores how we can better understand and design cities. Other projects reverse this equation and use data from sensors to create brilliant new environments. Carlo Ratti, besides being a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is Principal Investigator at the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions (AMS Institute), and the curator of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025. Ratti is also founder of the international design and innovation office CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati.

Gert-Jan Rozemeijer

In the academic year 2025-2026, Gert-Jan Rozemeijer was the second guest of the programme. Rozemeijer’s work focuses on making the impact of wood-based building both bigger and more measurable. A big part of materials used in buildings is in the load-bearing structure and constructing that through wood decreases its CO₂-footprint significantly. It also comes with its own engineering challenges to match other qualities of conventional building materials. Through his work, Rozemeijer wants to go beyond solving these challenges and unlock the possibilities of wood-based construction: “The advantages are numerous: wood stores CO₂, is a renewable resource and helps us diversify the materials we use for construction. Working and living in a biobased, nature-rich environment improves our well-being. And working with wood gives us the opportunity to think about new ways of building that make use of the unique qualities of this material.”

Tosin Oshinowo

As of Febraury 2026 Tosin Oshinowo has been the new Oosterhoff Visiting Professor. Tosin is an architect, designer and entrepeneur. Through her Lagos based architecture firm, her work is grounded in a deep attention to local self organisation and in leveraging constraints as drivers of creativity and societal impact within the built environment. Her approach challenges dominant notions of what architecture is, and what the values of the profession can be.

Ad van der Aa and Veronika Heidegger

Building physicists Veronika Heidegger and Ad van der Aa are the Jaap Oosterhoff Visiting Professors for fall 2026. Through their shared expertise, they aim to show students and researchers how building physics can help address some of today’s greatest challenges, from climate change and health to sustainability and digitalization. Their central message is that building physics is not primarily about complying with regulations and labels, but about understanding, predicting, and realizing the actual performance of buildings. Over the coming months, they will work closely with faculty and students through guest lectures, workshops, and a public lecture at the end of January.
